Fees & Policies

If you have never hired a criminal defense lawyer, you may not be aware of the fees and costs that defense lawyers charge. There are also issues of how the fee will be paid. The amount that you may expect to pay for legal services in a criminal case normally depends on the nature of the criminal charge against you, complexity of the evidence, length of the expected trial, amount of pre-trial preparation necessary and finally, the experience and expertise of the lawyer.

More challenging and complex criminal charges justify a larger fee. Donald A. Lykkebak will evaluate your case and quote you a fee for representation at the time of your first consultation. If you have elected to consult with him after reviewing this website, please mention that fact when you make your appointment and you will be provided a complimentary initial consultation. There will be no fee for that consultation and if you wish to retain Mr. Lykkebak after confidentially discussing your situation with him in the office, you may pay for further representation at that time.

Payment Arrangements
At the time of the initial consultation, you may discuss your specific financial circumstances with Mr. Lykkebak. The lawyer understands that many times, the accused has not anticipated his arrest or the financial burden that accompanies the hiring of a lawyer to take care of a serious problem. In that event, fees can often be structured in payments, which permit an individual to obtain the very best legal representation he can afford.

Attorney/Client Privilege
When you contact the office either by telephone, email or at the time of your initial consultation, these communications are respected as privileged and confidential whether you subsequently hire Mr. Lykkebak or not. As a member of the defense team, communications with Mr. Lykkebak’s Paralegal, Judy, are also covered by these rules. With more than 30 years’ experience in the criminal justice system, Judy is extremely knowledgeable and has been the assistant to Don Lykkebak for over 25 years. You may speak with her with confidence that she will not disclose your information with anyone except Mr. Lykkebak.

Any time you consult with a lawyer and share private information with that lawyer about your circumstances or the facts of your case, that communication is privileged--even if you do not hire that lawyer. Whether you hire the lawyer or you are merely consulting with him with a view towards possibly hiring him to represent you, the lawyer is not allowed to disclose privileged communications without your permission.
